What are your biggest health and fitness questions?

Hopefully by now you know that we are committed to helping you live a healthy and fit lifestyle. Our families, jobs and communities are counting on it.
So what we'd like to do is create articles, videos and seminars based on exactly what you need to be successful.
Leave a comment or send me an email and let us know what areas you need assistance with, seem confusing to you, or areas you would just like to know more about.
Here are some examples
What type of exercise should I be doing to lose fat?
- How many calories should I be eating?
- Do I really need to be counting calories everyday?
- How many times a week do I need to exercise?
- Is personal training really worth the money?
- Is looking great the only reason to exercise?

Fitness Bootcamps for Teens
Did you know that almost 15% of youth are obese and 1 in 3 are overweight? How about this, did you know that for the first time in history it's feared that our childrens' generation won't outlive ours? Seriously. This is a very real and very scary scenario. Because of these numbers (and because we love to train kids), Get Fit Carlisle is pleased to announce our Fitness Bootcamps for Teens.
The classes will be held at 3:30 M, W and are for middle and high school aged kids. The beauty of the program is that the classes are designed for all levels and we can train elite athletes and relatively sedentary youth at the same time. We think it will be a great mix of athletes and non-athletes and will be a lot of fun.
The camps are currently underway. We are offering a one week free trial to let the youth try it out before making any commitment. Call me at 609-0799 or email me at kirk@getfitcarlisle.com to get your kids started today! Our future kind of depends on it.
By the way, unfortunately we are not offering a class for elementary age youth. However, I'd like to know if there is a need for a class like this. If you have a child in grades 1-5 and would be interested in an after school fitness camp for them, please email me at kirk@getfitcarlisle.com

Have No Fear
Let's be honest here, we live in a very scary time. The housing market has stalled, people are losing their job and the "saving" bailout seems to a bust. Our current economic conditions are the worst they have been in 70 years and our President-elect just recently said in his address that things will most likely get worse before they get better.
How are you feeling? Are you scared? Nervous? Do you have a sense of anxiety always around you? It's easy to live this way but definitely not healthy. However with fear all around us, how can we live a healthy less anxious life? Here are some quick tips that can reduce your anxiety today!
1. Turn off the news - Seriously, you know what they are going to say and none of it is any good. When we consistently open our ears to negative reports we doing nothing else but opening our lives to fear. Concentrate on good news and hope and see how it changes your mindset.
2 Speak Positively - Our society is full of people who constantly see the glass as half-empty. Nothing is any good and never will be. This kind of thinking and speaking has a direct effect on how we view life. If we focus on the negative, we will be negative. But if we speak about good things in our life and in the lives of others we start to see things in a different light. Take notice to how you are speaking today? Is it full of hope or gloom and doom? Make an effort to say something positive to somebody each day.
3. Watch What You Eat - You may not realize this but what we eat plays a huge role in our moods. Some foods can actually lead to an increase in anxiety and depression in our life. With our surroundings being filled with fear, we certainly don't need to be putting more of it in our lives. Choose whole natural foods like fruits and vegetables and stay away from the highly processed garbage that we see everywhere.
4. Workout - In our busy lives it seems almost foolish to take time to workout. But research has shown that when we exercise, hormones are released in our body that increase the "fight" response in the bodies. This increases our mood and energy levels. However, when we choose not to exercise and eat poorly we increase the hormone that produces the "flight" response which is responsible for feelings of fear. Are you feeling anxious? Try this quick circuit that some of our members did today:
10 Squats
10 Mountain Climbers
10 Skaters
10 Push ups
10 Lunges
10 Woodchops
Perform this circuit 2-4 times to release the fear-fighting hormones that we need in these crazy times.
Not sure how to eat right and exercise? Our Fitness bootcamp classes can help you do both. It's not just about weight loss. It's about living well! Email Me with questions!

Can You Dig It?

This weekend the big snow fall missed us but it's only a matter of time before we do actually get some "real" snow. I personally can't wait as I like a good snowfall each winter, plus this year my "almost" 2 year old snow will absolutely love playing outside.
But there are some people who hate the snow and one of the main reasons is because we have to shovel our sidewalks, driveways, parking spaces, etc. Without fail, many people will hurt their backs, necks, legs etc. With that in mind, I thought I'd provide you with some "Safe Shoveling Tips" to save you the trip to the Dr.
1. Warm up - Shoveling snow is actually a pretty powerful, intense exercise. Many people get injured because they rush right into it without preparing their body to do the work. When the big snow hits, perform this circuit two times before picking up the shovel:
a) 10 Bodyweight Squats
b) 10 Push ups
c) 10 T-Stabilizations
d) 10 Lunges
2. Use a Staggered Stance
Put your right foot slightly ahead of the left or vice versa. With the rotation of the shoveling this tends to alleviate an unnecessary pain in the lower back.
3. Point your toes in the direction you are shoveling
As in point #2, there is a lot of torque and rotation developed in shoveling. By pointing your toes in direction you are shoveling it eliminates any additional rotation.
4. Shovel evenly to both sides
Often times we continue to shovel to one side while ignoring the other. Switch up which side you throw the snow to every 5 minutes or so
Give this a shot the next time the white stuff falls

Your Blueprint for ....Failure?
Yesterday millions of people started their 2009 New Year's Resolutions. Did you know that 92% of people who make resolutions fail. That is a fact. So today I've decided to give you the blueprint to ensure absolute failure. I mean everyone is doing it. Here it is
Step 1. Figure out on your own the best fitness plan to follow
Step 2. Go to the gym everyday and work out by yourself
Step 3. Add no variety to your workouts
Step 4. Spend at least an hour each day in the gym doing slow monotonous cardio
Step 5. Restrict every good food that you can think of.
Step 6. Don't do resistance training
Step 7. Don't find anybody to hold you accountable
Does this sound familiar? Are you currently following these steps? If so, you are destined for failure. Compare that to the Transformation Challenge
Step 1. Research based exercise programming to guarantee results
Step 2. Each session is coached by a certified personal trainer
Step 3. Each workout is different. No monotony here
Step 4. Fast Efficient workouts lasting only 30-45 minutes
Step 5. A sensible easy to follow eating plan
Step 6. Lots of resistance training to build calorie burning muscle
Step 7. Individual and group accountability sessions to keep you on track

Happy New Year!
New Year’s day…it never fails to evoke feelings of hope and renewal, but is it really a trap?
You’ve been handed a proverbial clean slate - another chance to shrug off your bad habits and reach for your dreams.
In an attempt to bottle that New Year’s vigor, you’ll make a few New Year’s Resolutions. But before you put pen to paper, you ought to know this:
It has been reported that 92 % of all New Year’s Resolutions end in failure.
That means that less than 1 out of every 10 people will successfully accomplish their resolutions in 2009.
Ouch - those statistics are brutal. Who in their right mind would take the time to make resolutions when failure is that imminent?
But not this year. Join the Get Fit Carlisle Transformation Challenge and be make it happen in 2009! Sign up today!
